I go to Disney World at least once a month, and I've found underrated things most tourists miss. On days when I'm not going to the theme parks, I love playing mini golf with family and friends. AdvertisementI've been going to Disney World for over 30 years, and as an adult, I visit at least once a month. The company is putting $60 billion into its global theme parks and cruise lines — including significant additions and renovations across the Disney World parks — so there's more to do every visit. But with all the expansion, most tourists probably miss the underrated activities I've discovered across the property.

We booked one of Disney World's most affordable hotels. Carly CaramannaI've stayed at every Disney World hotel, and to keep within budget for this trip, we stayed at my favorite affordable resort, Wyndham Lake Buena Vista. Even though it's one of the cheapest Disney World hotels, I found it to offer a complete resort experience, like on-site dining, bars, a coffee shop, and an expansive pool complex. As an official Disney World hotel, our stay came with free transportation to the theme parks, which saved us money on costly ride-share services. We booked three rooms to share for two nights, and each night only cost about $100.

AdvertisementA New York doctor with a severe dairy and nut allergy died from anaphylaxis after eating at a restaurant at Walt Disney World in Orlando, according to a lawsuit. The complaint says that Tangsuan, a family doctor in New York, died on October 5 after eating at the restaurant in Disney Springs — a shopping and dining complex at the Walt Disney World Resort. According to the suit, Tangsuan, Piccolo, and Piccolo's mother dined at the restaurant because they believed it would have "proper safeguards" to protect Tangsuan from allergens. The lawsuit alleges negligence by the restaurant and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, which controls the restaurants in Disney Springs.

New York CNN —A man is suing Walt Disney Parks and Resorts and Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant after his wife, a New York-based doctor, died suddenly shortly after eating at the restaurant. The 19-page lawsuit alleges the wait staff was negligent toward his wife’s severe food allergies. According to the lawsuit, Kanokporn Tangsuan, her husband Jeffrey Piccolo and Piccolo’s mother dined at Raglan Road Irish Pub in Disney Springs — which is part of the Walt Disney World resort — in October 2023. Some of the food delivered lacked allergen-free flags, but the waiter again guaranteed the food was allergen free, the lawsuit alleged. The lawsuit also alleges negligence by Disney Parks and Resorts, since it has control over the restaurants and policies at Disney Springs.

Mother’s Day presents “an operational challenge,” said Shawn Walchef, owner of five Cali BBQ eateries in the San Diego area. “Your Mother’s Day meal can’t be obnoxiously expensive,” said Derek Axelrod, co-owner of Manhattan’s Upper East Side T bar restaurant. Their Mother’s Day menu will likely be upwards of $100 person, but won’t turn much of a profit, he said.

April 11 (Reuters) - Florida Governor Ron DeSantis's newly formed oversight board is seeking to assert control over development in two cities where Walt Disney World Resort is located, the latest twist in a battle for authority over the company's Florida theme parks. A resolution, seen on Tuesday by Reuters, would give the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District board the power to review and evaluate development in the 25,000-square acres of property in and around Walt Disney Co's (DIS.N) theme parks. The district would hold "superior authority and control" over planning, zoning and other land use in the cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista, under a Florida law that formed the state-appointed oversight board. A spokesperson for Lake Buena Vista and Bay Lake did not respond to Reuters' request for comment. A spokesperson for the oversight board referred inquiries to an attorney, who was not immediately available for comment.

Florida’s medical board is the first in the country to pursue such a rule, but Florida is among a wave of states where officials have attempted to restrict gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors. The effort to restrict such care began in April, when DeSantis and Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo issued nonbinding guidance through the Florida Health Department that sought to bar both “social gender transition” and gender-affirming medical care for minors. Accredited medical groups — including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychological Association — have supported gender-affirming care for transgender youths. The first nine attendees who spoke were in favor of restricting gender-affirming care for minors. Only one of the eight had received gender-affirming medical care as a minor.
